Career Highlights & Teaching History
Here are various entries from my resume, including highlights from my teaching career as well as my teaching history. It is not complete but it covers things that demonstrate my competency in this area.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Tutored young adults and assisted with critical writing skills, reading and comprehension, and developmental communication needs.
- Experienced in developing solid curriculum-based learning experiences, customized learner-centered lessons, and engaged in extensive formative and summative assessment for individuals and groups.
- Engaged in various evaluation techniques to assess progress, both formative and summative, using various standards, seeking techniques to identify areas of concern, specific needs, and assisted in ongoing learning improvement, including referring to other professionals as needed.
- Skilled with teaching ELA 9 and all Grade 12 ELA, Social Studies 9 and 10-1 curricula, tutoring ELA and Social Studies all levels, trained in provincial ELA 30-1 diploma evaluation, and utilized this in course preparation and execution, student learning and evaluation.
- Created an Assignment Library Project file to complement The Wild Children where the focus was group work combined with seeking to connect the context of the story to our world today through encouraging utilization of student giftedness, combining Social Studies and ELA into unit.
- Created a Short Story Fair final project in which pairs of students have to ‘sell’ a unique short story, through advertising the elements of the unit and presenting this via a multi-genre visual presentation, complete with ‘purchasing’ through the questions based on Bloom’s Taxonomy each team created for evaluation.
- Lead a diversity book club where the focus is on indigenous writers from Canada and the USA, and other cultures and voices from throughout our world; purpose to engage in questioning, dialogue and discovery; frequent participation and teachings from indigenous elders and other people from Turtle Island.
- Completed duties as headteacher with Sogang Language Program, Sogang University, Seoul KR; responsible for: meetings, student entrance and placement evaluations, resources for teachers, parents, and students; created English reading and resource library, taught classes as required (various ages, purposes and levels); participated on team to generate units for advanced students; developed assessment processes, coached peers on educational and evaluative practices, established a library system for students and staff, and organized celebratory events for institute students and audience; was a consultant for institute owner.
- Planned large and small events from conceptualization through completion and evaluation, including preparation of materials and orientation, communications liaison between internal and external clients and participants, to small detail planning, registration, tracking, implementation, invoicing, feedback and post-event evaluation, including appreciation event for recognition of all production participants.
- Extensive experience with large-scale high school musicals via ten years with Alberta High School of Fine Arts and five years with Summerstock Conservatory Calgary in all capacities; program development, inter-departmental and parent communication, directing, producing, technical contributions, dramatic coaching, communication and Conservatory board member.
- Piloted “Professionalism in the Arts”, a 5-credit locally developed acting / performance-based course to 22 students over a 6-month production plan completed on schedule, with a final result of a 5-performance, sold-out run of the Canadian musical Anne of Green Gables in a school that had never done a large-scale musical.
- Adapted and combined three English Language Arts 10-1 units into one multi-disciplinary curriculum outcome-based project for a gifted student: project included Romeo & Juliet, To Kill A Mockingbird, and the poetry unit.
- Actively provided classroom opportunities to include differentiated learning and Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences approach to individualizing student motivation and learning; incorporating various methodologies to encourage individual success and empower students.
- Hold permanent teaching certificates in Alberta and Manitoba with over 8 years of teaching experience to every level of learner, primarily in curricula of English Language Arts, Drama, and Humanities.
- Have also done extensive administrative work in the areas of calendar management, communication, marketing, project and management support, meeting tracking and documentation, HR onboarding and file management, and staff tracking and documentation.
- Volunteered with a local non-profit in areas of Board contributions and Marketing management.
